The global Treasury function of an anonymous FTSE 30 food manufacturer needed better visibility of trade execution activity across multiple business lines. Existing reporting made it difficult to analyse execution profiles, counterparties, trade timing and market-rate performance from one consistent view.
The requirement was for a Power BI solution that could consolidate daily treasury data, retain sufficient history for trend analysis and give users both executive-level insight and detailed drill-down capability.
Treasury needed to bring together daily trade data and turn it into consistent, decision-ready information. The solution had to track executed trades across the portfolio, analyse gross execution by trade type and currency pair, assess counterparty exposure, evaluate execution timing and maturity schedules, and compare execution rates with market rates.
The underlying data also presented modelling challenges. Currency-pair formats were inconsistent, trade directionality needed to be represented correctly, and multiple daily Excel exports had to be consolidated without relying on repeated manual analysis.
Data Integration: SharePoint was established as the central repository for daily exports from the treasury reporting system, with dataflows consolidating multiple Excel files into a structured dataset.
Automation: Refresh schedules were aligned with treasury-system export timings, reducing the need for manual data gathering and maintaining an up-to-date analytical view.
Data Quality and Modelling: Power BI standardisation rules addressed inconsistent currency-pair formats, while custom modelling represented trade directionality and transformation logic consistently.
Iterative Dashboard Design: Maxica worked with Treasury users to develop overview and detail pages, targeted filters and visualisations for execution profiles, counterparty risk, trade duration, maturity timelines and execution-rate comparisons.
Maxica delivered a three-tier treasury analytics solution spanning data integration, data quality and business intelligence. Five years of historical trade data were loaded and maintained, with automated consolidation creating a reliable foundation for Power BI reporting.
The dashboard provided a hierarchy of overview and detailed analysis, supported by section-specific and directional filters. Treasury users could examine gross execution profiles, standardised currency pairs, counterparty exposure, trade duration and maturity, and execution rates against market rates from one solution.
£199bn+ of Trade Data: Created a consolidated analytical view covering more than £199 billion of treasury execution activity.
85,000+ Trades: Enabled historical analysis across more than 85,000 trades held within a five-year data repository.
Reduced Manual Analysis: Automated daily data consolidation and refreshes, removing the need to repeatedly gather and combine source files for reporting.
Improved Risk and Execution Insight: Gave Treasury clearer views of counterparty exposure, execution patterns, maturity schedules and execution rates relative to market rates.
The solution addressed the complete reporting chain rather than focusing on dashboard design alone. Data storage, consolidation, standardisation, modelling and visualisation were designed as connected components.
Iterative collaboration with Treasury users kept the analysis aligned to practical business questions. Automated refreshes and consistent modelling then gave users a repeatable way to explore a large historical trade dataset without rebuilding the analysis each day.
If your finance or treasury teams need clearer insight from complex operational data, Maxica can help design the data model, automation and Power BI reporting needed to turn fragmented information into decision-ready analysis.
