The Requirement

An anonymous global animal charity needed a clearer view of how Power BI was being used across the organisation. Its existing Microsoft Power Platform Centre of Excellence reporting provided insight into Power Apps and Power Automate, but Power BI remained a significant visibility gap.

The requirement was to create enterprise-level transparency of Power BI assets, ownership, usage and engagement, while aligning the new capability with existing Centre of Excellence dashboards to provide a more complete view of platform adoption and governance.

Without a consolidated view of Power BI activity, the client had limited visibility of report and dataset ownership, unmanaged or orphaned workspaces, user engagement and licence utilisation.

That made it harder to identify governance risks, rationalise content, optimise capacity and make evidence-based decisions about the analytics estate. The challenge was not simply to surface data, but to make it useful within the client’s existing Power Platform governance model.

Governance-led design: Using Maxica's Data & AI Business Solutions approach, our consultants focused the solution on the information needed to govern Power BI effectively: usage, ownership, engagement and the health of the wider analytics estate.
