Implementing Cyber Security Laboratories

CASE STUDY - TOP 30 GLOBAL UNIVERSITY

The Requirement

Maxica was commissioned to to take-on the implementation of Cyber Laboratories with only 45 days remaining before the start of teaching.

The University had been successful in winning one of only 12 government grants to support the creation of 3 fully isolated, but internet connected, Cyber Security laboratories (CyberLabs) leveraging leading-edge IT to equip students with advanced hands-on cyber security skills.

The Challenge

The university had secured a grant but was as risk of not implementing the Cyber Laboratories on time or to specification.

User Requirements: The user requirements (how the labs would be utilised) needed to captured.
High Level Design: A technical blueprint was required to ensure the user requirements and userability needs were met along with the university IT standards.
Planning: A robust tightly managed plan was required due to the limited time available.
Resources: Securing technical and business resources was challenging due to high utilisation of these teams.
Userability: The labs required a quick, user friendly solution for them to be reset to a base configuration./li>

Implementation

The University already had Maxica Consulting’s flexible resourcing (PMaaS) and used this to quickly engage a high calibre Project Manager on to the project.

Our team moved quickly to define and bed down clear communication channels which ultimately enabled an effective working environment. We removed the complexity surrounding solution identification by preparing an options analysis (3 options) that made it easy for the customer to identify the pros and cons of different approaches to achieve the requirement.

To ensure that the maximum benefit of the new laboratories could be realised by the faculty and students, the project delivered specifically tailored training sessions to substantially reduce the time between product acceptance and delivery of value to students.

Results and Outcomes

Under Maxica’s leadership all 3 CyberLabs were successfully delivered by the deadline date. These new labs will significantly enhance the University’s cyber security teaching capabilities with a step change in student outcomes, experience and satisfaction.

Conclusion

Maxica’s flex resourcing (PMaaS) removed waiting time for the University ensuring that the right project delivery skillsets and resource were available to the University on-demand to deliver this important project for the benefit of their students.

These Cyber Security Laboratories are a differentiator for this University allowing them to attract and secure students from across the globe.
